Here I go, time to officially become my own #girlboss

Yesterday, I left Hamilton as a teacher for the last time. I said my silent goodbyes to the building and the district, and had emotional goodbyes with my coworkers that have become family. But despite the  sadness I felt leaving my friends, I finally felt at peace. My ability to breathe changed - it became lighter and easier. I felt my energy calm and stay calm for more than just a few minutes. I was a middle school music teacher for seven years, and as scary as it is to leave a profession, one that I spent five years of college preparing for, everything in my body knew it was what I needed to do. Don't get me wrong, I still cry every time I talk about not seeing my friends at work every day ((takes a deep breath)), but I know in my heart that they will be lifetime friends and family.

I have spent a lot of time this week thinking about everything that I learned about myself from being a teacher and meeting the friends I have through teaching. The students taught my that I have more patience than I ever thought possible, and that cursing loudly behind closed doors to maintain that patience is a total NECESSITY. I learned that I am a full on mama bear when it comes to protecting and defending the people I care about, and those people can include a student that I had for three years. Being a teacher definitely helped me prepare to become a mom. My first class of sixth graders that I had for all three years before sending them off to high school showed me that I was meant to be a mom. ((takes another deep breath)) And I will get to see them graduate from high school tomorrow. My students also taught me that children are stronger than you think, and it's impressive and heartbreaking at the same time. Teaching in Hamilton, you hear so many  too many stories about the awful home lives that these kids have, and for some of them, you would never know, because they are polite rays of sunshine. For the others, you just hope for the best, and pray that you don't hear about them in the news for something awful one day.

I don't really know what changed to make me decide to leave teaching. I don't think it was one specific event or reason. I give my all to everything I am passionate about, and I knew it wasn't fair to my coworkers or my students to stay, if I couldn't give 100% anymore.

My coworkers were the best daily cheerleaders for me. If I was having a bad day (which unfortunately happened a lot), they would all rally to cheer me up in a way that seemed effortless to them. If any of us needed something, at least two of us would step up to help. They taught me to laugh at myself, embrace my (not so) inner bitch, take care of myself, highlight my strengths, and tackle my weaknesses. I will always miss seeing them every day, and being spoiled with knowing everything going on in their lives, but I know that it's not goodbye, it's just see you later soon.

So, what now? I'm pursuing styling full time! I am finally and completely becoming my own #girlboss. In addition to having my own clients, I have been applying to other styling jobs, and I have a lot of events and collaborations in my future. I'm excited, I'm scared, but most importantly, I'm ready.

My husband, my honey bunny, and my family have also been absolutely incredible in this process. Poor Tony has to hear me on a a daily basis going from "This feels so right, I'm so excited" to "Are you sure I can do this?????", and he handles it with such strength and a calm, soothing energy. It's amazing, and I can't fully express my gratitude for that. I know it's been hard for those closest to me to watch me to take this leap, and that's why it means the world to me to have their support.

Here's to the future, keeping my chin up, and always moving forward.

PHLbloggers:

Since summer has officially arrived, and we are now in the middle of a heat wave, I think I can finally think back to this photo shoot from February and not get goosebumps from remembering how cold it was! I'm sure that you'll recognize some of these faces from the other group photo shoots that we have done! These PHLbloggers are so much fun, and I always love seeing what they wear for our different shoots!

This shoot was done on a chilly Sunday morning around Rittenhouse, and this particular theme was of one of the biggest trends for spring and summer, ruffles! As you can see from all six of us, you can choose to embrace ruffles by wearing a top with a large statement sleeve or subtly show them off in small ruffles on a clutch. There are ruffles for any style, and as you’ll read in our descriptions, you can even find great pieces that are on trend from different Philly designers and boutiques!

From left to right: Priyanka Setty, Gurpreet Talwar, and Kelsey McKee

Priyanka Setty of Paint the Town Chic
“With this look, I combined two of my favorite trends, ruffles and metallics!  The ruffles on the top added a little visual interest, but the top was also a great solid base for the printed skirt. Both the top and the skirt are from H&M! The best part - I didn't have to accessorize with a necklace.  I kept the accessories simple with some great statement earrings and peep-toe heels - it was the perfect transitional outfit!”
More details on Priyanka's outfit

Gurpreet Talwar of Moda Ninja
“As a part of my 'upcyle, reuse, reinvent' goal of 2016, I am trying to contain my 'bursting from the seams' wardrobe. Luckily, I found this ruffled blouse in my closet, which I bought years ago from a high street brand - Forever New. As we approach spring, I've been thinking blush pinks and pastels, so I paired the blouse with my favorite blush culottes and faux fur jacket. The favorite piece from my own outfit is a multi color, ruffled sling by Philly based designer, Simitri Designs. I love working and collaborating with local artists and designers and try to incorporate something local in all my outfits!”
Kelsey McKee of BellsxWhistles
“I really tried to focus my top (Zara) around current/upcoming trends – ruffles, statement sleeves, and gingham print. I paired the top with my favorite pair of distressed denim (Urban Outfitters) and a metallic neck scarf (Forever 21) for a little pop and excitement.”
Kelsey's Details
From left to right: EM Ricchini, Sarah Moore, me

EM Ricchini of Lark and Lace
“As a plus-sized woman, I have to be careful with my ruffles, because they can get REAL unflattering REAL quick. Since I love a good statement sleeve, I decided to rock some arm ruffles. I kept the rest of the look simple: some palazzo pants and simple white shoes. (Oh, and a bucket bag, because they’re always a great option.)”
More from EM

Sarah Moore of Smoorelovin
“For my ruffles, I went with a low-cut top and layered it with a loose, flowy wrap. I paired this with my Show Me Your MuMu Flares, a closet staple for me. I bought these when flare pants were just becoming trendy again, and I haven't taken them off since. Never underestimate the power of a trend to become a staple. To finish the look off, I wore a thin gold lariat necklace with a gold choker. Choosing delicate accessories let the ruffles and flares shine, while pulling everything together.”
Me!

“My super fun party dress (Keepsake You Will) is from one of my favorite boutiques, The Geisha House (Old City). I fell in love with this dress, as soon as I saw it online, and new I had to add it to my wardrobe. I kept my shoes and jewelry simple, so I could allow the dress (and those glorious sleeves) really shine, however, if you’re wearing this to a wedding or a party, by all means, go for some fabulous heels!”

Bloggers Who Brunch (at Butcher Bar)

I am a big fan of brunch, and I think that if you don't like brunch, we can't be friends. I mean, what's not to like - there are always sweet and savory options, and you have an excuse to drink prosecco before noon, and no one can judge you for it!

Recently, I had the pleasure of dining during my favorite meal of the week with some of my fellow PHLbloggers at the oh so yummy, Butcher Bar. If you haven't been to Butcher Bar yet, you need to go. There is indoor and outdoor seating, the decor is wonderfully on point, and the food is delicious! Our server was also very patient and understanding of us when we needed to take some (ok, maybe not some...more like a lot of) pictures, especially after we told him that we were bloggers. Also, huge shout out to our photographer, Julia Dent for our GORGEOUS photos!

Some of my yummy food - beets and goat cheese!

Every time our PHLbloggers group gets together for a photo shoot, we always have such a fun time together. At our last shoot, we decided that we should hang out, and I think it was Kelsey, who suggested that we plan a brunch attire shoot, so we could spend time together and take pictures too! Such a fun plan!

Our stylish group with our different interpretations of brunch attire!

Our "judgement free" zone!

As a fashion lover and a personal stylist, I really love the range in styles that everyone chose for this shoot. That's definitely what makes shooting with everyone so fun. They all bring their own style to every shoot, and somehow we end up still coordinating!

Khoi of Gentleman Within

Despite being the only guy at our shoot, Khoi fit in perfectly! His style incorporates classic and modern pieces with current trends as accents, and I love it.

Sarah of Smoorelovin

Sarah's outfit represents what I love about style. Let me explain. I have been very resistant to the overalls trend, but Sarah has officially proven me wrong! I love how she paired these edgy overalls with a very on trend off the shoulder top and vibrant accessories. Sarah's styling of the overalls make the excellent point that when it comes to trends, find the style that works best for you! It may require a little bit of searching, but it will be worth it!

Also, can we talk about her glorious bag from Sticks+Stones? I never thought I could ever love a backpack that much.

Kelsey from Bellsxwhistles

Kelsey's look is easy, breezy, summer, sunshine, and I love it. Yellow has become one of my favorite colors, and it looks gorgeous on Kelsey! Her layered, delicate necklaces and aviators elevate a sundress, and make it perfect for brunch in the city.

And then there's me!

I took the advice of a few fellow bloggers that I met at The Blog Connect Conference, and decided to actually keep my glasses on for a photo shoot for once. I was told to embrace my inner nerd, and see what happens. So, here we go! Here's me, feminine, nerdy, lots of tattoos, modern style accessories, and totally rockin' a floral boho dress from Haute Mama.  (Side note: anyone in central/south jersey and Philly, let me take you over to Haute Mama ASAP! Valerie has the cutest clothes and accessories there - perfect for summer!!)

Show off as much or as little of your personality to the world as you choose. Despite being a blogger, I consider myself a private person to most people, but I allow my tattoos and my fashion choices to speak about me instead. This way, when you do get to know me, you can understand me through what I'm wearing. Being a personal stylist, I like to help my clients in that same way.

Because, after all, you do you, boo.

Outfit Inspiration for Date Night Motivation

Hi there, ladies!

I was recently contacted by Adore Me, to show off some date night outfits that are inspired by their collection of intimates! After becoming more familiar with their collections, this task gave me SO many ideas, because they have something for everything (and everyone!). Adore Me's bra sizes range from 30A-46G, they have underwear, shape wear, swimsuits, loungewear/activewear, and of course, lingerie!

While, I could have chosen an outfit for every undergarment on their site, I controlled myself, told my stylist brain to calm down, and narrowed it down to two outfits - a daytime and a nighttime outfit. But, because I have been looking at lingerie nonstop (because it's just so pretty!), I made sure that both outfits would be great for a date!

Perfect summer date outfit, Adore Me

I love a good trapeze/swing dress, especially in warm weather. It's flattering on almost all body types, and it's just an easy piece (and this one has pockets!!). Unfortunately, sometimes the armholes are a little loose, so you can get that unattractive visible bra that you become self conscious of for the entire time you're wearing it (because you totally forgot about that, since the last time you wore it). But, when you're wearing the super cute Sophy bra, instead of being worried about your boring bra peaking out, you can rock the pink lace sides as a bandeau alternative! Plus, the Sophy has a racerback style, which works perfectly with this dress too! Fun fact about the shoes - they're Aerosoles! I know! I was surprised too! Aren't they cute? I think I need that clutch. It's kind of adorable.

Perfect date night outfit, Adore Me

If you saw me at the Blog Connect Conference in Philly kick off party, then you already know that I own this dress. It is by Fifteen Twenty, and I bought mine from Six Clothing in Haddonfield. For as form fitting as this dress is, it's basically works like Spanx. (Can I get an amen?) I LOVE this dress. I feel sexy, powerful, stylish, and trendy when I wear it.

The only way that I could make it better is by wearing something sexier underneath! That's where the Deeandra bra comes in! This bra can be worn strapless too, which is a must for all of those off the shoulder dresses and tops that you have been adding to your closet this season (I know I am not the only one, who can't control themselves around an off the shoulder ...anything).

Because this dress is perfect for nighttime, I went with a metallic bag that can be used as a clutch, but has a shoulder strap, and some beautiful dark floral pumps. No jewelry necessary here, since the dress has statement sleeves, and you're creating additional accents with the bag and shoes. If you feel like you need to wear something, go with stud earrings or a simple choker necklace.

I don't know why, but there's just something about sunshine and gorgeous weather that makes me want to get all dressed up and go somewhere fun!

Check out Adore Me's site, and let me know what your favorites are, and if you would like me to help you create an outfit around a specific piece!

"Lost in a Daydream" Shoot for Stellar Design

This past weekend, in addition to working with some new clients, I also had the pleasure of working as a stylist for the photoshoot, "Lost in a Daydream" for Stellar Design. I met the designer, Keyonna Butler through PHLbloggers! She was seeking out a stylist for an upcoming photoshoot in Philly, and I jumped at the opportunity! I couldn't be more glad that I did!

I had so much fun working with a wonderful group of talented, creative individuals! We were brought  together by the amazing, Keyonna! Her clothing is up-cycled clothing that incorporates bright colors and so much joy! I think it's Keyonna's energy and love for her designs that created such a synergistic photoshoot!

I love all of the aspects of my job, and as much as I love modeling for my blog, it was nice to not have to worry about what kind of weird and awkward faces I'm making (and then being photographed).  It was fun making sure that all of the clothes and accessories were being showcased perfectly, and the models, Marissa Kowalski and Sam Thomas  were just the sweetest! They are stunning, and were total troopers, especially considering how cold it was, while we were shooting!

Eyelash Extensions by Dani at Wink Lash Studio

Oh my goodness, I am so excited! I got eyelash extensions!! I feel so glamorous now, it's kind of amazing.

Since we are living in the age of social media and selfies, I recently became much more aware of the fact that my eyelashes do not like to behave! I've always been told that I had long eyelashes. I love to try different kinds of makeup, especially mascara, and I've probably tried them all! Since I have been taking a lot more pictures of myself over the past year, I noticed that my eyelashes do not like to hold a curl, and they are naturally straight! What good are long eyelashes if they don't curl?

#WednesdayWonder - Can you wear plaid without looking like a cowboy or a lumberjack?

Plaid is still going very strong as a trend, especially since winter doesn't seem like it's quite ready to leave just yet! (I'm going to blame the snow for the delay in this post). So, how do you wear plaid without looking like you're about to go line dancing or chop some wood?

#girlboss(es) 25 - Jennyfer Parra

Happy Friday! For those of us in the northeast, it's a snowy Friday! It seemed like we were done with this snow and cold weather, but apparently not! Anyway, our #girlboss this week is Jennyfer Parra, who is also a blogger (among other things!)! I enjoyed reading Jennyfer's responses, because you really get a sense of how she balances her drive with her appreciation for the joys of life! Enjoy!

#WednesdayWonders - What is the best color of jeans for men and women?

Denim comes in many different shades and colors, and for some, it can be tough to choose the right shade for their outfit! For this post, I'll just talk about the three main shades of regular blue jeans - light, medium, and dark. These are commonly referred to as "washes" (light wash, medium wash, dark wash jeans). (All of the tips provided in this post can be used for men and women!)

Just like when I'm enjoying a flight of beer, I'll start light and then go dark.

#girlboss(es) 24 - Gosia Campbell

Happy Friday! Gosia Campbell is our #FabulousFemaleFriday this week! She and I met through one of the awesome Facebook groups where we are both members. If you have been keeping up with my #girlboss(es) series, then you know how much I love showing off female entrepreneurs, so I was excited to read and write about Gosia! Enjoy, and check out her site when you get a chance: www.beautydeepskincare.com

#WednesdayWonders - What is the latest trend for shoes?

So many of us look for different options for shoes than the traditional choices - for women, we can usually choose between heels or flats, and for guys, there are oxfords or loafers. Of course, boots are always available too, but they are season specific. That being said, the question that I received is regarding sneakers! Sneakers - they're not just for working out anymore! However, you have to choose the right pair. You can't wear your Brooks with a cute dress and call yourself chic.

Since last week's Wednesday Wonder was for the guys, let's start with the ladies first, and then I'll show off some options for the gentlemen.

adidas sneakers

I have been seen these EVERYWHERE. The Neo Advantage is definitely a more casual option, so think of these more for the weekend. They're sporty without looking too athletic, and they tie right in to the athleisure trend that's so big right now. If you're a fan of these, but you don't want the same pair that everyone has, check them out in white and rose gold!

#girlboss(es) redefined 10 - Carla Evans

Happy Friday!! This week's #FabulousFemaleFriday features my cousin, Carla! Carla has always been involved with my life,  as well as my sister's, and I feel so lucky because of that. She has been such inspiration with all of her accomplishments, her complete dedication to her children, and her never ending strength (I seriously mean it - I don't know how she does it!). Her three (not so) little ones are all equally impressive in their own ways, and I adore all three of them to pieces. I will allow Carla to explain more about herself, because she is definitely a better writer than I will ever be! Enjoy!!

#WednesdayWonders - Can guys wear colorful socks and look good?

Guys, it has been far too long, since I have done a post that you can relate to! So, gentlemen, this is a quick, Wednesday Wonder post for you!

When I work with male clients, who are limited with their options on what they can wear to work, the  idea of incorporating fun socks into their wardrobe usually comes into our conversation! Sure, guys have ties that they can wear to "spice up" their look, but in some jobs, they're still left with only conservative options. So, how can they add some fun and show off their personality through their clothes? Socks!

#girlboss(es) 23 - Crystal Gareau

Happy Friday!! This week's #FabulousFemaleFriday features another fellow blogger, Crystal Gareau! Crystal is the founder of busymomdiary.com , a mom/lifestyle blog! Ever since I started with my #girlboss #FabulousFemaleFriday series, I have really come to appreciate the honesty in the responses that I receive. As a blogger and a social media researcher (that's not an official title, it's just one that I have given myself, since I'm constantly doing research for my blog or my business), I really find that honesty in blog posts allows the reader to genuinely connect to the author. I enjoy Crystal's openness in her responses that she sent to me, as well as in her own blog posts. After you're done reading about her, check out her blog! Enjoy!!

#WednesdayWonder - Do statement necklaces have to also make a financial statement?

When people hear them term, "statement necklace", they usually think of something big, bold, lots of sparkle or shine, and jewels for days. I'll be honest with you, (my clients and friends already know this about me, but I'll share it with you guys too) I don't always spend a ton of money on my jewelry, especially statement necklaces! Just like clothes, you want to invest more in the pieces that will last through all of the trends, and that will give you more bang for your buck. For the trendier pieces, it's ok to buy them at a cheaper price tag, because you'll get your wear out of them, and by the time the trend has run its course, the jewelry will be ready to be retired! It's great timing!

Still don't really believe me? That's ok, I know plenty of visual learners, so I'll use pictures!

Ok, so which one cost more? The one on the left or the one on the right?

#girlboss(es) 22 - Valerie Sanders

Happy Friday, everyone!! This week's #FabulousFemaleFriday post features someone that you have already met, if you're a regular reader here! Valerie is the founder and owner of Haute Mama! You can read about Valerie, how we met, and her awesome event that I attended here! For my South Jersey readers, Valerie is holding another event TOMORROW at Lifetime in Mt Laurel! She'll be there selling her super cute, super soft clothes and jewelry starting at 8am! I'm going to try to stop by myself, because I have worn my "Rise Rise Rise" sweatshirt an embarrassingly amount of times, since I bought it from her at her last event... and I need more items like that in my life! Enjoy reading about Valerie, and go to her event, if you can!

Save the date!! - Style Party!

Exciting news... I have another style party for you all to attend!! Yay! So, get your calendars ready, and add Susan's Style Party on March 4th from 6:00-9:00pm (this will be held at my house again)!

If you missed the first one, back in November, you will definitely want to attend this one!

At the last style party, we discussed all things clothing related - answered a lot of questions, showed tricks for choosing the right necklace or neckline for your features/outfit, chatted, and snacked on delicious food while drinking yummy beverages! SO much fun!

For this style party, I decided to take it to the next level for all of you! This one is going to be a ladies only event (sorry guys! We'll do a guys night soon!), and not only will you get a TON of fashion advice from me, but we will have special guests as well - my friends, Meredith and Courtney!

Meredith is involved with a pretty wonderful company called, Trades of Hope. Trades of Hope is primarily a jewelry company, but they also sell other accessories and some home goods too. I went to a party at Meredith's over the weekend to check out the jewelry in person, and I made some purchases that I am quite excited about! I can't wait to show them to you!! Some trendy, some classic, some fun pieces! Meredith will be able to explain the details and origins of the pieces, and I will explain how you can wear the different pieces that you are interested in purchasing! Jewelry has the ability to completely change the look of an outfit, and I will show you everything you need to know!

You're probably thinking, ok, but why did Susan say that this company is "wonderful"? This quote is directly from the Trades of Hope website from the founders of the company stating,

"We work with the artisans themselves and organizations that are helping women in difficult circumstances. Some women have been rescued from sex slavery. Others are raising handicapped children alone. Some are in war torn countries and others have HIV/AIDS and leprosy. These women have never had the chances we've had, yet they are just like us in so many ways. They love their families and hope and dream of a better life for them. "

How incredible is that? For the full story, click here!

Now, for those of you that watched my Facebook live video this week, you already got to meet Courtney! If you missed the video, here's the link! We had a BLAST together!! If you did not watch the video, let me tell you a little bit about Courtney! Courtney is a good friend of mine, and she works for the company, Younique. Similar to Trades of Hope, Younique also has a strong mission to empower women:

"Derek Maxfield and Melanie Huscroft, a brother-and-sister team, founded Younique in September 2012 with a mission to uplift, empower, and validate women across the globe. Derek and Melanie firmly believe that all women should feel valued, smart, and empowered through opportunities for personal growth and financial reward!"

Think of this style party as a ladies' night out!
You'll get style tips and tricks from me, you can shop for jewelry and makeup, and Courtney will be doing eyes and lips for anyone who would like them done!! You'll get professional advice, professional makeup applications, and you'll be able to shop too!
Did I mention that there will also be food and beverages?

Ok, so, now that I know you have put this date in your calendar, think about if there is anyone else that would love this too, BECAUSE the more people that come, the cheaper the admission fee becomes! (I guess the fee is the only bummer, sorry! It's totally worth it, I promise!!)

So, here's how the pricing will work:

If we have 5 people RSVP yes, the cost is $45/person
If we have 10 people RSVP yes, the cost goes down to $35/person
If we have 15 people RSVP yes, the cost is only $25/person!

I will be creating a Facebook event to send out invitations, but if you already know that you want to be there, and you're so excited that you can't contain yourself, comment on this post with "Yes!" as your RSVP!

The first person to comment on this post with "Yes", will be able to bring a friend for $15 - so if we have more than 15 people attending, it will only cost the winner a total of $40 for their admission and a friend!

I am so so so excited to see all of you! This is going to be a ton of fun!

#WednesdayWonder - Lingerie Edition with The Philly Bra Lady

This Wednesday Wonder is a bit of a special edition, because multiple questions will be answered, AND I am not the one who will be answering the questions that you asked! Instead, I contacted another professional, because this week's questions were all focused on lingerie! Don't get me wrong, I am definitely capable of helping my clients find good undergarments, but Karima aka The Philly Bra Lady is the QUEEN of bras.

Valentine's Day Fun featuring Fresh April Flours

When it comes to celebrating a holiday like Valentine's Day, my husband and I love to enjoy the holiday through food (and getting dressed up in a chic outfit, of course!)! I was actually quoted recently, by a fellow blogger sharing my favorite idea for a date night for Valentine's Day! Check out that blog post here at Arrows & Awe.

In my internet travels, I recently came across this post by blogger, Lynn of Fresh April Flours, and I immediately reached out to Lynn to see if she would be willing to share her post with me and my readers!

#girlboss(es) 21 - Abby Fereday

In addition to both of us being bloggers, Abby is also a mom, and she was a former teacher (as you'll read below)! What a small world! There is a link to her blog at the bottom of her post, so definitely check it out, after you're done reading! There are so many fun posts! I know that I have enjoyed reading them!

#WednesdayWonders - How do I dress up a baby bump?

One of my besties is preggors with her second little man, and I am SO excited for that little guy to also be friends with my honey bunny, just like his big brother! She always looks adorable, but she still asked me about my opinions regarding maternity clothing. Being a mom and a personal stylist, I get a lot of questions from pregnant women about how to keep their sense of style while pregnant.

Maternity clothing is tough, because throughout your entire pregnancy, your body changes like crazy, and it feels like it changes every week (because it is)! So, something that may have worked for your body last week, may not work at all the next! Not many people have the money or the time (or patience) to purchase new clothes every week to deal with that problem.

So, my first suggestion on where to look for maternity clothes is your own wardrobe! Even if this is your first pregnancy, I guarantee that you have at least a few things that could work with your adorable bump! It can be challenging to find cute maternity clothes that are also inexpensive, so check your closet first.

Look for looser tops like this one

Haute Mama Mala Event at the Color Room

This past Thursday, I attended such a fun event held at The Color Room Marlton by Valerie Sanders of Haute Mama Mala! Valerie and I connected through the PHL Bloggers Facebook group, when she mentioned that she was looking for a style blogger to attend her event in NJ! As soon as I saw that someone was looking for a style blogger, I immediately got excited, and then I saw that the event was being held literally down the street from me! I reached out to Valerie immediately, and she gave me the details for the event!

Valerie and I had been chatting, since she told me about the event, and we clicked immediately! She has such a kind soul, and I really look forward to getting to know her better - especially since we live minutes away from each other! Oh yeah, and she's STUNNING!

Her entire collection incorporates the perfect amount of badass with soul, and I love it. All of her clothes allow you to go from working out to going out, all while feeling confident that you look good.

#girlboss(es) redefined 9 - Sara

Happy Friday! I am SO excited to finally be able to share my sister with you for this week's #FabulousFemaleFriday! I asked her back in August to let me feature her. It took some convincing, but she agreed, and her schedule has quieted down enough for her to send me her responses!!

When Sara and I were little, we focused more on our differences than our similarities. Wherever we went, we constantly heard, "You're sisters? You don't look ANYTHING alike."

It wasn't until Sara went to college, that we started to develop a friendship, which has just continued to grow throughout our adulthood. Having an older sister is wonderful for so many reasons, including, you see them do everything first, and you're able to learn from it. If you're lucky like I am, not only are you able to observe your older sibling, but they're willing to help you and teach you too.

Sara helped me create me list of colleges to start looking at, while I was in high school. She was the first person to give me wedding magazines to start paging through, the night I got engaged (oh, the time of wedding planning before Pinterest). She gave me the best baby books, when I was pregnant, and constantly told me to stop checking the internet for information, because it just made me panic. She was in the room with me, my husband, and my mom for the labor and delivery of my son. I still text and call her for advice, to vent without being judged, and just to chat.

Her sons have become best friends to my son, and it's seriously 'make your heart explode' adorable.

She's an incredible mom to her two boys. Her level of creativity is endless in everything she does. She's brilliant, funny, well traveled, cultured, energetic, friendly (seriously, EVERYONE loves her), and of course, beautiful.

It wasn't until I saw this picture that I realized how much my sister and I do look alike. My mom helps our relationship make sense, and that also makes my heart happy.

Anyone else have a rough time coming up with a playlist for this activity? No? Just me?

Ok. So here I am. Hi everyone, Susan's sister, Sara, here. Honored and privileged to be both female and considered fabulous by my amazingly talented sister. I'm a regular reader of her blog and I must say I've been impressed and inspired by the company I'm in. How lucky I am to personally know and adore some of you previously featured faces. it's just so fun to be reminded of just how awesome the people in your life are... Thanks for featuring me in the bunch, Susan!

As the sun sinks slowly into the west on my my early thirties, I find myself at the precipice of reinvention. True, it wouldn't be the first....Dreamer. Book Store Lackey. Poet. Historical Archaeologist. Grad Student. High School Teacher. Tutor. Mother. Advocate. Writer. I've done the rounds. But this past year, 2016, it's been a whammy. I moved my entire over zealous container garden to raised beds in the back yard. David Bowie died. The very fabric of the universe may very well have begun to unravel. Oh, and I got diagnosed with cancer. But, here we are. 2017. And here I am. Looking forward.

At present, I am a stay at home mom and freelance writer. The demands of motherhood further amplified by having a child facing some challenges pulled me from the traditional workforce 7 years ago and there hasn't been a dull moment since. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and that opportunity is constant. I've always been pretty driven to "do." What, exactly? Well, that changes pretty frequently. I'm a renaissance woman (not the faire kind) ... (OK, maybe the faire kind, but not in any professional sense) and my interests and passions drive me, with a healthy dose of reality in tow. I always have a lot on my plate in terms of things to do, and a lot in sight in terms of things to accomplish. Up and coming? In no particular order.... Maybe: My doctorate. Definitely: Some writing projects. Scheduled: Radioactive iodine treatment. Really need to get on this: Relaunching my blog.

I try not to get bogged down in the day to day. Setbacks happen. But so do Herculean feats of house cleaning. It's important to keep it all (and cancer) in perspective.

I'm fortunate enough to have experienced some unimaginably powerful (and beautiful, and liberating, and awe inspiring) moments in my life. I have, hands down, the most amazing family and support system in the 'verse. I've been held up by their strength, love, and perseverance my whole life long. I got married to my best friend (and gaming arch nemesis) in a fairytale, surrounded by an entire forest full of our people. I gave birth to two beautiful children ("the Incredible Hulk" and "the Flash") who EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. challenge me. And even more so, challenge me again, to be a better human so that they can continue to grow, live, and love their way into the legit tiny humans that they are already in the midst of becoming.

But I can get esoteric about this too... I've been lucky enough to have moments where I've felt more connected to "it all" than I ever could've dreamed. Whether it was sitting on an Irish cliff writing poems, staring out into the oblivion of North Atlantic... Riding on a catamaran New Year's Day above the Polynesian reef as manta rays flew by on the tips of the waves... The wind rushing through my hair on horseback, cantering through an open field... The same primordial hum resonates and recharges. Maybe it's my inner yogi talking, but I feel strongest in the small moments of quiet calm in my typical tornado of an existence.

So my advice to my younger self?
BE patient. It takes time for the journey to figure itself out. You'll get wherever you're going, and you probably don't have the faintest idea of where that is yet. The path doesn't really end.
BE brave. You can't play outside without occasionally tripping and scrapping your knees. Learn from the scars, and know that while they don't define you, they do have a part to play in just how awesome you can become.

BE bold. It's not simply enough to be, you must be present and be you - no one else has that job. BE appreciative of your friends, cause really, they're family, and they'll still be there in your 30somethings.

Oh... And stay off the internet.
